On July 30, 2004, the 2004 Beijing Insight to Action Workshop was held by Pact China, Beijing Office, in People’s Cultural Palace.
Participants were from more than 20 cross-country enterprises and Chinese enterprises and 20 plus NGO non-profit organizations. Director Wang Xingjuan and Deputy Director Hou Zhiming from the Maple Women’s Psychological Counseling Center, Beijing, attended the workshop.
Three themes were discussed and exchanged among the participants.
1. Introduction to corporate community engagement: the situation of enterprises’ social responsibility to global development was talked about, including the awareness of social responsibility of the cross-country and domestic enterprises and awareness of social responsibility of government, non-profit NGOs and the media, as well.
2. Case studies and exchanges: Cases of successful cooperation between non-profit NGOs and enterprises was introduced. Activities include aid the-poor, help the handicapped, AIDS prevention and environment protection, etc. The cooperation between the Beijing Sun Village and Nirvana Fitness is touching. They have established cosy cottage for children, whose parents are in term of imprisonment. They help these children grow healthily.
3. Action of plan: Cooperation between enterprises and NGOs for the aim of social benefits has been an important force for promoting social development. Arrangement was made at the Workshop for the two parties to cooperate with each other and it has really benefited them. Mr. Huang Haoming, executive director of the CANGO, summarized a few words for the cooperation of the two, which read, searching, fitting, culture, sharing and innovating. These words are inspiring to us all.
